The Big Idea

A running list of random things I am wondering about right now.

  • How do we actually have a confessional position on worship and practice that is not in the extreme of imposition of tradition on consciences or the prideful jettisoning of heritage. What is Liturgy

  • What is the proper use of a church library in a digital, AI drive, “easy” data access culture. The Purpose of a Church Library

  • What are we actually as humans and how do we hold the tension of scripture and how it describes us as multifaceted beings. A Creature Among Machines, Creatureliness, My Thoughts on Cosmology, A Grounded Cosmology and a Creaturely Anthropology

    • What are the specific uses of space or patterns that could be used in the life of LCOS or even my own personal life to most fully align the use and constructions of space for our stated goals of mission and ministry? LCOS Community Notes, Living Process for LCOS
  • It seems like church fellowship had been over condensed in many circles in two directions. There is “all about love” that ends up being you do you mentality that is not actually any kind of true meaningful working together on shared beliefs or confession. Or there is a puritanical and almost legalistic focus on doctrine and confession that is so focused on doctrinal purity that there is no room for real living breathing human relationships. It basically becomes its own kind of group think that is unable to challenge and be challenged by others in a loving and constructive way. Confessions and Decentralization, Cooperative Learning

  • Sabbath The Biblical Rhythm of Time and Rest the idea that we have really messed up the idea of rest and sabbath in our culture with it basically meaning “time to do whatever you want” where sabbath had a clear focus on not doing exactly what you want but taking time to focus on God and communion with Him. • Continuing to dig into how to teach and practice typological reading of scripture to find and see the beauty and continuity of scripture. Notes from Conversation with Sarah Salzburg, Telescope of Scripture, the Law and Doctrine, Christian Meditation

  • How to actually build and encourage a creative community that lets arts and beauty thrive. In the forms of music, art, etc. Aesthetic

  • I desperately want to get better at Storytelling and the way that emotion, meaning and content are all transmitted through a well told story that actually affects the way the hearer things and feels about the world. Story Questions and Existential Questions

  • How can our local churches be connected and work together in meaningful ways that transcend the island mentality of congregations?
